KARACHI: Sindh government spokesperson Sukhdev Hemnani has said that economic prosperity is essential to make Pakistan stronger and more stable.

Addressing as chief guest at the Independence Day ceremony held at Karachi Press Club, he stressed the need to promote economic growth, create employment opportunities and strengthen national unity to ensure sustainable development.

A dignified ceremony was held at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, featuring a flag-hoisting ceremony and cake cutting. The national flag was hoisted during the ceremony, followed by cake cutting and the national anthem.

Sukhdev further said Pakistan’s progress and prosperity require collective efforts, political stability and policies focused on the national interest. He urged all stakeholders to rise above personal interests and work together for the country’s economic development.

Sindh government spokesperson said Pakistan was a beautiful blend of different nations, languages and cultures, adding that national unity and solidarity were the country’s greatest strengths.

He said Pakistan’s development and prosperity required the nation to rise above personal interests and adopt a collective approach. He added that free and responsible journalism played a vital role in social reform and strengthening the democratic system.

Sukhdev paid tribute to the journalistic and democratic struggle of the Karachi Press Club and said the journalist community had always played an important role in highlighting public issues and matters of national importance. He said Independence Day carried a message of renewed resolve to work for the country’s development, stability and prosperity.

KPC President Fazil Jamili said freedom was a great blessing and the result of the countless sacrifices made by the country’s forefathers. He said the nation must value this freedom and play its role in Pakistan’s development and stability.

He said the journalist community would continue to fulfil its responsibilities for freedom of expression, democratic values and the supremacy of the Constitution. National unity, tolerance and mutual respect were essential for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity, he added.

“Journalism is the voice of society, and the Karachi Press Club will continue to play its role in protecting press freedom and democratic values,” Jamili said.

KPC Secretary Aslam Khan said Independence Day provided an opportunity to remember the sacrifices of the country’s forefathers and renew the commitment to building and developing Pakistan.

Freedom of expression was a fundamental requirement of a democratic society, he added, stressing that the journalist community would continue to perform its professional responsibilities with honesty and a strong sense of responsibility.

KPC Vice President Irshad Khokhar, Treasurer Imran Ayub, Joint Secretary Farooq Sami, Governing Body members Abdul Jabbar Nasir, Fareed Alam and Javed Mehr, former Secretary Muhammad Rizwan Bhatti, Amir Latif, KUJ Dastoor President Nasrullah Chaudhry, along with a large number of journalists, KPC members and their families, attended the ceremony.
