ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has updated ex-depot fuel prices, offering minor relief to petrol consumers while increasing high-speed diesel (HSD) costs. The price adjustment includes a Rs 2 per litre increase in the petroleum levy (PL) applied to HSD, effective August 12.

According to the notification of Petroleum Division, the price of HSD has been increased by Rs 1.39 per litre, shifting the ex-depot price from Rs 380.86 to Rs 382.25 per litre. While, petrol price has decreased by Rs 1.70 per litre, dropping the price from Rs 327.62 to Rs 325.92 per litre.

Petroleum Levy on petrol is at sustained unchanged at Rs 80 per litre, whereas the PL on HSD has increased from Rs 74.28 per litre to Rs 76.28 per litre. The Climate Support Levy (CSL) stays at Rs 5 per litre, while Customs Duty is set at Rs 21 per litre for petrol and Rs 15.68 per litre for HSD.

In a recent tweet, Finance Minister’s Adviser Khurram Shehzad defended the gradual increase in the petroleum levy on high speed diesel, saying the adjustment represents a gradual return to the budgeted levy level rather than a new tax increase.

The authority has recommended the price after three days. The fuel prices were remained unchanged for August 11, extending the existing tariffs from August 8–10 due to the non-publication of Singapore Platts prices on August 10.

Under the daily pricing framework, OGRA adjusts fuel rates based on currency exchange fluctuations and a seven-day rolling average of Singapore Platts trends.
