KARACHI: Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) organised a ceremony at its Centre of Entrepreneurship, Management and Emerging Technologies (CEMET) to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh attended the ceremony as chief guest, while FPCCI Vice President Bilal Waqar Khan was the guest of honour.
The programme began with a flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by a special cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate the recently signed Joint Makkah Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.
Children from Sweet Home and Little Angels presented tableaux, while DUET students delivered speeches highlighting the significance of Independence Day.
Impressed by the performances, Mayor Arsalan Islam Shaikh announced cash awards of Rs25,000 each for the Sweet Home children who participated in the tableaux and Rs50,000 each for the DUET students who delivered speeches.
The mayor also assured his full support for the development of CEMET Sukkur and its facility requirements, and reaffirmed his commitment to the centre’s further growth.
In her vote of thanks, DUET Vice Chancellor Dr Samreen Hussain appreciated the District Council Sukkur and the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce & Industry for their support, describing the initiative as a successful triple-helix model bringing together academia, government and industry.
She also thanked the Mayor of Sukkur for extending continued support and facilities to the centre.
