KP PA okays changes to Members’ Privileges and Facilities Act 2026

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly unanimously approved amendments to the Members’ Privileges and Facilities Act 2026, withdrawing the provision that had granted lawmakers lifetime official (blue) passports.

Separately, the assembly unanimously passed a resolution opposing any proposal to incorporate Haripur and Abbottabad into the federal capital territory.

The resolution, moved by Provincial Minister Akbar Ayub, declared that Haripur and Abbottabad are integral parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and affirmed the province’s political, economic and constitutional rights over its territory and natural resources.

The amendments were passed during the ongoing provincial assembly session.

Meanwhile, under the revised law, official blue passports will remain valid only for the duration of a member’s term in the provincial assembly.

The assembly also restored the number of free arms licences available to each lawmaker to four under the amended legislation.

In addition, the revised bill reduced fines and penalties relating to journalists and introduced changes to other disputed provisions contained in the First Schedule of the law.

Following the passage of the amendment bill and the resolution, the assembly session was adjourned until Monday (August 10).
