LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) launched a sharp attack on the ruling PML-N on Thursday, accusing it of rigging elections in Azad Kashmir and driving Punjab deeper into debt, even as it urged its rival to keep political discourse civil.
At a press conference, PPP Vice President Azain Gulzar asked party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to begin his public outreach campaign from Lahore’s Gulzar House, honoring Benazir Bhutto’s legacy. He pressed the Punjab government to fix chronic urban problems like flooding, sewerage and clean water, arguing that road projects alone don’t reflect real governance. He also criticized derogatory memes targeting Bilawal circulating on PML-N’s social media, calling for more respectful politics.
Deputy Information Secretary Ahmed Rehman Ghuman alleged widespread coercion in Kashmir’s first two election phases and said the party had filed 35 complaints of irregularities. He also cited rising per-capita debt in Punjab. Deputy Secretary Khurram Farooq Advocate accused police under Maryam Nawaz’s tenure of enabling crime rather than curbing it.
