ISLAMABAD: At least five people have been killed and 16 injured owing to various monsoon rains related incidents in Sindh and Punjab provinces during past 24 hours as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued another advisory with warning that continuing monsoon rains could sharply raise water flows in major rivers and trigger flooding in parts of Punjab and other regions, with urban flooding also feared in a wide stretch of low-lying districts.
In the latest situation report released here on Tuesday, the NDMA said that in the past 24 hours two people were killed in Punjab and three in Sindh while eight people each were injured in Sindh and Punjab provinces, taking the death tally to 141 and injured to 434 during the ongoing monsoon season. The flooding also killed 27 livestock in the past 24 hours and damaged 14 houses. So far, at least 572 livestock have perished, and 1,164 houses are damaged, of which 366 are fully and 798 partially while 25.43 kilometres of road networks have also been swept away by the flood waters, destroying 37 bridges elsewhere in the country.
Of 141 flood-related deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province has reported 57, Punjab 52, Sindh 13, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 10, Balochistan eight and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) one. While out of 434 injuries, Punjab province reported 316, KP 82, Sindh 16, Balochistan 15 and AJK five. Out of 1,164 nationwide damaged houses G-B reported 329 of which 138 fully destroyed and 191 partially damaged, Balochistan 228 of which 18 fully and 210 partially KP 210 of which 67 fully and 143 partially, Punjab 199 of which 104 fully and 95 partially damaged, AJK 183 of which 37 fully and 146 partially damaged and Sindh 15 of which two fully and 13 partially.
