KARACHI: Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi inaugurated the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), where Dr Muhammad Imran Saleem, Chairperson of the Department of Applied and Emerging Sciences, presented an overview of the lab’s facilities, objectives, and future potential.
Nehal expressed that the AI Lab, established with support from the Zakir Ali Khan Foundation, marks a significant advancement in fostering research, innovation, and AI education for students. He took it as a crucial milestone in empowering the next generation with emerging technologies and preparing them for future challenges.
Chancellor SSUET, Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan said that AI Lab aims to provide students and researchers with access to the latest technology and resources, fostering an environment of collaboration and creativity.
The facility is equipped with advanced computing power, machine learning tools, and collaborative workspaces, enabling groundbreaking research and hands-on learning experiences.
Dr Imran Saleem emphasised that the SSUET AI Lab aims to promote collaboration among academia, industry, and government, leveraging diverse expertise to address complex societal challenges.
The lab will focus on developing algorithms for machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision, while also analyzing large datasets to enhance decision-making.
He noted that the lab’s contributions could lead to improvements in quality of life, economic growth, and societal well-being, while also enriching educational experiences and preparing students for successful careers in AI. Additionally, the lab will support entrepreneurship by helping students and faculty develop startup ideas based on their research.
