Oil-led rally lifts PSX

Published Updated

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) staged a strong recovery on Monday as easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a sharp decline in international crude oil prices reignited investor confidence and triggered broad-based buying across key sectors.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index gained 2,105.91 points, or 1.20 percent, to settle at 178,200.02 points compared with the previous close of 176,094.12 points. The market remained firmly in positive territory throughout the session, touching an intraday high of 178,985.95 points after opening on a strong note, while the day’s low was recorded at 177,759.88 points.

The BRIndex100 closed at 19,648.42 points while the total turnover stood at 677.29 million shares, underscoring strong investor participation. Similarly, the BRIndex30 closed at 70,874.72 points compared, while total traded volume reached 353.42 million shares.

According to Topline Securities, the local bourse staged a robust comeback as optimism surrounding the possibility of renewed diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran eased geopolitical concerns, prompting a sharp fall in international oil prices and improving overall market sentiment.

The brokerage said the decline in energy prices boosted investors’ risk appetite, leading to broad-based buying across major sectors. Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC), Meezan Bank (MEBL), Lucky Cement (LUCK), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Engro Holdings (ENGROH) collectively contributed around 699 points to the benchmark index.

Trading activity remained healthy despite a slight decline in overall volumes. Ready Market volume stood at 785.36 million shares compared with 880.95 million shares in the previous session. However, traded value increased significantly to Rs33.14 billion from Rs24.96 billion, reflecting greater activity in higher-value stocks. Total Ready Market capitalization expanded by Rs198.15 billion to Rs19.95 trillion, up from Rs19.76 trillion a session earlier.
