Rain brings pleasant weather across Karachi, easing heat, humidity

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts dust-thunderstorms and rain for Karachi and other Sindh districts until August 3, driven by a low-pressure system, warning of urban flooding and structural damage.

Rainfall began across various parts of Karachi on Saturday, bringing much-needed relief from the city’s intense heat and humidity and turning the weather pleasant.
Light to moderate showers were recorded in several parts of the city, including its northern and suburban areas. Rain was reported in New Karachi, Nagan Chowrangi, and Nazimabad, while heavier showers were recorded in North Karachi and Surjani Town.
Other areas, including Gulshan-e-Maymar, Scheme 33, Gadap Town, and nearby localities, also received rainfall.
Following the showers, residents enjoyed the cooler weather as temperatures dropped and humidity eased. However, the rainfall left roads slightly slippery, prompting motorists to drive with caution.
The development comes hours after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast dust-thunderstorm and light to moderate rain in Karachi Division from Saturday afternoon/evening until the morning of August 3, with occasional gaps.
According to the PMD, Karachi will remain mostly cloudy on Sunday and Monday, with temperatures expected to range between 27°C and 35°C.
The weather system is being driven by a well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan, India, after the earlier depression weakened. The system, along with active monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal and a strengthening westerly wave, is expected to continue influencing weather across the upper and central parts of Pakistan.
The PMD has forecast moderate to isolated heavy and very heavy rainfall in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari and Shaheed Benazirabad districts from today through August 3, with intermittent breaks.
Meanwhile, dust thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are expected in Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, Thatta and Jamshoro districts during the same period.
The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall may trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan and Tando Allahyar from today until August 2.
It also cautioned that strong winds, heavy rain and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, including solar panels, electricity poles and billboards.
Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities according to the weather forecast and ensure the safety of their livestock.
The PMD has urged all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures to minimise the risk of weather-related incidents during the forecast period.
