LAHORE: The Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA) has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the new electricity bill format introduced from June 2026, calling it a serious setback to transparency and consumer rights.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, PHMA North Zone Chairman Abdul Hameed said the revised format has removed key details such as meter-reading snapshots, meter reader information, connection dates, arrears history, units-consumed columns and a breakdown of statutory charges, making it difficult for consumers to verify their bills. He said the changes bypassed mandatory NEPRA procedures, as no petition or public hearing was held before implementation, violating provisions of the NEPRA Consumer Service Manual.
Hameed said QR codes cannot replace printed information, especially for those without digital access. He demanded restoration of the previous format, strict compliance with regulatory procedures for future changes, and an inquiry into who authorised the removal of essential consumer data from electricity bills.
