120 firms join SSUET job fair as Sindh governor inaugurates AI lab

More than 120 companies participated in the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) Job Fair 2026 on Thursday, as Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi inaugurated a new artificial intelligence (AI) laboratory at the university.
The job fair brought together leading employers and students, offering recruitment, networking and career guidance opportunities, while the governor also inaugurated the Muhammad Zakir Ali Khan Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Game Innovation.
Addressing the ceremony, Hashmi said Pakistan had made significant progress in cyber technology and should continue adopting the latest IT innovations to strengthen its competitiveness. He expressed confidence that the country could emerge as a leading regional IT hub.
Speaking at the event, SSUET Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan said the job fair served as an important platform to connect students with industry, allowing them to interact directly with potential employers, explore career opportunities and receive professional guidance.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between academia and industry through internships, workshops and practical training programmes to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace requirements.
SSUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Afzal Haque highlighted the importance of vocational training alongside higher education, calling for greater cooperation among universities, industries and organisations to better prepare graduates for the evolving job market.
University officials said the newly inaugurated AI lab is equipped with advanced computing resources, machine learning tools and collaborative workspaces to support research, innovation and hands-on learning in artificial intelligence and information technology.
