ISLAMABAD: Two members of the United States House of Representatives on Monday acknowledged Pakistan’s critical role in regional stability and economic resilience during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ), where both sides also explored avenues to expand bilateral economic and defence cooperation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Congressman Ryan Keith Zinke of Montana and Congressman Michael James of Washington called on the army chief to discuss matters of mutual interest, regional security, bilateral defence cooperation and opportunities to enhance economic collaboration and shared prosperity.
During the meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan’s vast economic potential, stressing that lasting regional stability is closely linked with economic growth, trade expansion and regional connectivity.
He also briefed the visiting delegation on Pakistan’s ongoing structural reforms aimed at creating a business-friendly environment and attracting foreign investment.
Recognising the professional backgrounds and expertise of the visiting lawmakers, both sides discussed opportunities for greater bilateral economic engagement, private sector partnerships and stronger trade relations between Pakistan and the United States.
The US lawmakers thanked the military leadership for its hospitality and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting deeper economic, commercial and institutional ties between the two countries, the ISPR said.
