ISLAMABAD: With two deaths and 16 injuries reported in various monsoon rain-related incidents across the country over the past 24 hours, the total death toll has risen to 109, while 360 people have been injured, according to monsoon-related data released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday.
According to the NDMA, all 16 people injured in floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains over the past 24 hours were from Punjab, while the two fatalities were reported from Balochistan. The rains also damaged 305 houses and killed 92 livestock during the same period, including 88 in Balochistan and four in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).
Overall, the highest number of flood-related deaths has been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), where 55 people — including 26 children, 18 men and 11 women — have lost their lives. Punjab follows with 36 deaths, including 14 men, 14 children and eight women. Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has reported seven deaths, including three men, two children and two women; Sindh has reported two deaths, comprising one man and one child; while G-B has reported the death of one man.
Of the 360 people injured in flood-related incidents, 148 are men, 118 are children, and 94 are women. Punjab has reported 263 injuries, including 119 men, 80 children and 64 women; KP 78, including 28 men, 24 children and 26 women; Balochistan 15, including 13 children and two women; Sindh two, including one child and one woman; while AJK has reported two injuries, including one woman and one child.
A total of 379 livestock have perished in the floods, including 194 in KP, 96 in Balochistan, 77 in G-B, six in Punjab and six in AJK.
Floodwaters have washed away a total of 23.09 kilometres of road network, including 20.79 kilometres in G-B and 2.30 kilometres in KP. They have also damaged 25 bridges, including 24 in G-B and one in Punjab.
The NDMA further said that 148 rescue operations have been carried out, 4,111 people have been evacuated to safer locations, and 11,943 relief items have been distributed among flood-affected communities through the NDMA, Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), and partner organisations.
