ISLAMABAD: Security forces foiled a suicide vehicle-borne attack on a check post in South Waziristan on Saturday, killing all four attackers, including a suicide bomber, while continuing counterterrorism operations in Balochistan under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, where the number of terrorists killed has risen to 13.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij attempted to storm a security forces check post in South Waziristan District using an explosive-laden vehicle. The military said security personnel detected the attack in time and engaged the vehicle before it could reach the post, destroying it outside the perimeter and killing the suicide bomber without causing any damage to the installation.

The remaining three attackers took refuge in a nearby compound after their initial assault was repelled. Security forces subsequently launched a deliberate clearance operation, killing all three militants without suffering any casualties.

The ISPR said a sanitisation operation was underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area, adding that the counterterrorism campaign under the National Action Plan’s Azm-e-Istehkam vision would continue until foreign-sponsored terrorism is eradicated.

Meanwhile, security sources said intelligence-based operations in Balochistan’s Mastung district were continuing with significant gains against terrorist groups.

According to the sources, the number of terrorists killed during the ongoing operation in the Khad Kocha area has increased to 13. Several hideouts used by the Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Hindustan were also destroyed during the operation.
