SUKKUR: The commencement of South Air flight operations at Begum Nusrat Bhutto Airport marked a significant development in enhancing air travel connectivity for the residents and business community of Sukkur.

The inaugural ceremony, held under the supervision of Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi, reflects the regional administration’s commitment to improving travel facilities. Commissioner Qureshi highlighted the importance of this development, marking it as a significant milestone in regional air travel facilities.

He highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve transportation infrastructure, which includes the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway project. This motorway is being constructed to promote road travel, for which the divisional administration has completed its responsibilities, while the National Highway Authority will finalise the remaining tasks.

The airline’s operations will expand to several key destinations, including Panjgur, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Turbat, and Gwadar. This expansion will not only facilitate travel but also promote cultural interactions and reduce geographical distances.

The recent devastating floods of 2022, which severely affected the infrastructure of Balochistan and Sindh, underscore the need for improved transport links. Commissioner Qureshi expressed hope for Pakistan’s future economic growth and development, presenting these initiatives as key contributing factors.

Kaleemullah Baloch, representing South Air, explained the airline’s strategic focus on reactivating previously dormant airports, contributing to the nation’s aviation sector.

Airport Manager Naqash Ahmed Baig, in his welcoming remarks, highlighted the importance of South Air presence in the aviation industry, calling it a step forward for the country’s connectivity.

The ceremony concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting event celebrating the inaugural ceremony, followed by a warm welcome for South Air first flight at Sukkur Airport.
