LAHORE: The Young Parliamentarians Forum Punjab Assembly hosted a ceremony on Wednesday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, reaffirming the shared commitment of both countries to deepen parliamentary engagement and strengthen cooperation between young diplomats of the Chinese consulate in Lahore and the young parliamentarians of the Punjab Assembly.

The ceremony was chaired by Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan, while Sun Yan, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lahore, attended as the guest of honour.

Addressing the ceremony, Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan described Pakistan-China relations as one of the most enduring and exemplary bilateral partnerships in the contemporary world, founded on unwavering mutual trust, profound respect and a shared vision for peace, prosperity and sustainable development.

He observed that the relationship between the two countries extends far beyond diplomatic engagement and economic cooperation, reflecting an exceptional bond between their peoples. He said China has consistently stood by Pakistan at every critical juncture and has made invaluable contributions to Pakistan’s socio-economic development, infrastructure modernization, technological advancement and institutional capacity-building.

Sun Yan said the past 75 years have witnessed the steady evolution of Pakistan-China relations into an all-weather strategic cooperative partnership founded on mutual confidence and shared interests.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) remains the flagship project of bilateral cooperation and that the second phase of CPEC is creating new opportunities for collaboration in agriculture, industrial development, mining, innovation and other emerging sectors.

He expressed confidence that the younger generation would play a defining role in shaping the future of Pakistan-China relations and voiced hope that the Punjab Assembly’s Young Parliamentarians Forum and the Chinese Consulate would further expand cooperation through dialogue, academic exchanges and collaborative initiatives.

Amina Hassan Sheikh, President YPF, said young leaders possess the vision and capacity to elevate Pakistan-China relations to new heights and will continue to safeguard and promote the enduring legacy of friendship between the two countries.

Hina Parvez Butt stated that Pakistan-China friendship represents a model of mutual trust, inclusive development and shared prosperity, adding that the active participation of women and youth will further reinforce this strategic partnership.

The speaker later presented commemorative shields to the consul general and members of the Chinese delegation in recognition of their participation.
