LAHORE: The Foreign Nationals Security Cell of the Home Department Punjab continues its effective operations as part of the ongoing nationwide campaign against the illegal stay of Afghan nationals in Pakistan.

In accordance with the Government of Pakistan’s policy, Afghan nationals residing in the country without valid legal status are being apprehended, shifted to designated holding centres, and repatriated after completion of the required documentation and legal formalities. So far, a total of 2,588,016 Afghan nationals have been repatriated from Pakistan, while 138,342 illegally residing Afghan nationals have been repatriated from Punjab alone.

Spokesperson for the Home Department Punjab stated that, under the Government of Pakistan’s policy, the stay of any Afghan national without a valid visa is considered illegal. As part of the ongoing enforcement campaign, inspections have been carried out in residential areas and commercial markets across the province to identify individuals residing unlawfully. Illegal foreign nationals are taken to designated holding centres, where temporary accommodation, registration, and repatriation arrangements are provided.

Punjab currently has 36 operational holding centres, where 53 Afghan nationals are presently housed. Following completion of legal formalities, they are repatriated through the Torkham Border and handed over to the Afghan authorities. The spokesperson said that these figures reflect the Government of Punjab’s effective strategy and proactive administrative measures in implementing the national repatriation policy. Public cooperation remains essential for the successful completion of this national mission, he added.

Citizens have been urged to report the illegal stay of Afghan nationals, identity fraud, or any suspicious activities by calling the Emergency Helpline 15. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential. The spokesperson clarified that enforcement action is being taken only against individuals residing illegally in Pakistan.

The Home Department Punjab’s Foreign Nationals Security Cell continues to monitor and coordinate the implementation of the repatriation campaign across the province.
