ISLAMABAD: The federal capital witnessed more than 45 crime incidents during the past week, including car thefts, murders, mobile phone and cash snatchings, and robberies, in which citizens lost valuables worth millions of rupees.

Data gathered by Business Recorder showed that the 45 reported incidents included 25 cases of vehicle theft, eight cases of street crime involving mobile phone and cash snatching at gunpoint, 10 cases of various kinds of theft and robbery, two murders, and the recovery of two bodies by police. During the same period, criminal gangs were most active within the jurisdictions of the Karachi Company, Khanna, Sumbal, Margalla, and Sabzi Mandi police stations.

Among the most shocking incidents, a security guard was critically injured after unidentified armed robbers opened fire during a robbery within the limits of Shahzad Town Police Station. The assailants, who were riding a motorcycle, snatched mobile phones and cash from two security guards before fleeing the scene. Sources said one of the security guards offered resistance, prompting the robbers to open fire and seriously injure him.

In another incident, a taxi driver, Shah Maqbool, was seriously injured after unidentified robbers stabbed him when he resisted a robbery within the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi Police Station. According to sources, the driver picked up two unidentified young men, believed to be between 18 and 20 years old, from Aabpara for Faizabad. Upon reaching Faizabad, the suspects asked him to drive to Mandi Mor. When the vehicle reached near the CDA Kacha Stop in Sector I-10, they instructed him to make a U-turn. The suspects then held him at gunpoint and snatched Rs 15,000 in cash and his mobile phone. When the driver resisted, the assailants attacked him with knives, leaving him seriously injured.
