ISLAMABAD: As tensions continued to ripple across the region following recent skirmishes between Iran and the US, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s “complete solidarity and support” for the people of Qatar, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from any actions that could further threaten regional peace and stability.
In a telephone conversation with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the prime minister voiced deep concern over the escalating tensions and the potential implications for wider regional security.
Sharif expressed his gratitude to the Emir for Qatar’s consistent and unwavering support for peace initiatives, which have paved the way for the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and the convening of the first round of high-level technical talks in Bergenstock.
The two leaders underscored the need to sustain diplomatic engagement and meaningful dialogue, stressing that continued efforts were essential to preserving the momentum of the peace process and ensuring the fulfilment of commitments made by all parties under the Memorandum of Understanding.
The Qatari Emir conveyed his appreciation to Prime Minister Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their leadership and role in advancing regional peace efforts. He also assured Pakistan of Qatar’s continued support in this regard.
