LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly’s standing committee on local government and community development on Wednesday reviewed the Panchayat Bill and decided to defer it for further consultation with the concerned departments.

The standing committee, which met under the chairmanship of Muhammad Ashraf Rasool, MPA, also discussed issues related to public.

During the meeting, MPA Amjad Ali Javed briefed the committee on the legal aspects and potential benefits of the Punjab Community Justice (Panchayat) Bill, 2025. The committee, however, decided to defer the bill for further legal scrutiny in consultation with the local government department and the law department before proceeding further.

The committee also discussed pending public interest matters, including the provision of NADRA services, the distribution of funds, and the restoration of the Shah Muhammad Ghaus Library.

Moreover, the committee members reviewed the latest report regarding the demolition of a minaret at Naulakha Chowk in Tehsil Shakot and directed the district administration to ensure that legal action is taken in accordance with the law.

The committee further instructed the administrative department to ensure transparency in matters related to NADRA services and the distribution of funds. It referred the case of the Shah Muhammad Ghaus Library to the Walled City Authority for necessary action and disposed of the relevant pending resolution.

The meeting was attended by committee members Khurram Khan Warraich, MPA Mehwish Sultana, Syeda Samreen Taj, Rana Tahir Iqbal, and senior officials from the concerned departments.
