GILGIT: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, arrived in Skardu on Sunday ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of Chief Minister-elect Amjad Hussain Advocate.
Bilawal Bhutto was received by Syed Mehdi Shah at Skardu Airport.
The PPP chairman later departed for Gilgit to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected chief minister.
The oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Advocate Amjad Hussain is scheduled to take place today at 2pm at the historic Chinar Bagh in Gilgit.
Bilawal was accompanied by senior PPP leader and former federal minister Qamar Zaman Kaira during the visit.
Amjad Hussain Advocate was elected chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan unopposed.
His nomination papers for the province’s top executive office were submitted earlier in the presence of PPP lawmakers and senior party leaders.
In a related development, Hafeez-ur-Rehman was elected Leader of the Opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
The unopposed election of Amjad Hussain is being viewed as a significant political development for the region, with PPP leaders expressing confidence in the new administration as it prepares to assume office.
