CARACAS: The death toll from the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 1,450, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, said Sunday.
“The number of deaths has reached 1,450,” Rodriguez said in a televised address, providing the latest official figures, up 20 from Saturday.

The United Nations has estimated that some 50,000 people are missing after Wednesday’s earthquakes.
