KARACHI: The body of a Pakistani fisherman who died while imprisoned in India has been returned to Karachi and laid to rest at his ancestral home in Keamari, the Edhi Foundation announced on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Ismail Ibrahim, 75, had been in Indian custody since 2021, according to the Abdul Sattar Edhi Foundation. The exact date of his death could not be immediately confirmed.
On the instructions of Edhi Foundation head Faisal Edhi, the body was transported from Karachi airport to his residence in Badr Ground, Keamari, via an Edhi ambulance.
The death of a Pakistani fisherman in Indian captivity is not without precedent.
In 2019, another Pakistani fisherman died in an Indian prison after allegedly being beaten by jail staff, according to media reports at the time.
