KARACHI: Founder and Chairman of Saylani Welfare International Trust, Maulana Bashir Farooqui, has welcomed the significant reduction in petrol and diesel prices announced by the federal government.

He has also demanded that petroleum product prices be restored to the rates applicable before 11 Ramazan, and that fares for public transport, airlines and trains should also be reduced accordingly.

In a statement, he thanked Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif and said that the reduction of Rs. 74.28 per liter in petrol and Rs. 67.31 per liter in diesel is certainly a commendable step. However, he added that there is still room for further reduction.

He said that petroleum prices should be brought back to the level prevailing before the war, as old prices have also been restored in the international market.

Maulana Bashir Farooqui prayed that Allah Almighty grants the Prime Minister, the Federal Minister for Finance, the Federal Minister for Petroleum and other concerned authorities the ability to make future decisions in the interest of public welfare and ease.

He further said that in this era of severe inflation, the public wishes that petrol and diesel should not be priced above Rs. 225 per litre.
