HYDERABAD: In a landmark step towards strengthening gender-responsive education and safeguarding mechanisms in higher education, the University of Sindh (SU), Jamshoro and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to institutionalize a gender-based violence (GBV) case management curriculum within the university’s academic programs.

Under the agreement, UNFPA will provide technical assistance, curriculum modules, training resources, academic toolkits and expert guidance, while the University of Sindh will integrate the curriculum into its regular degree programs, promote research on GBV-related issues and facilitate field placements and internship opportunities for students. The collaboration also aims to strengthen faculty capacity through specialized training on advanced GBV case management practices and international standards.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at Sindh University’s VC office, where Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri (TI) and UNFPA representative Luay Shabaneh put their signatures on the agreement.

On the occasion, DIG Crimes & Investigation Sindh Aamir Farooqui, Pro-Vice Chancellor Thatta Campus Professor Dr Misbah Bibi Qureshi, senior faculty members, researchers and officials from both organizations.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri (TI) termed the agreement a transformative initiative for academia and society.“This partnership reflects our commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also socially responsible and equipped to address pressing societal challenges,” he said. He added that the inclusion of GBV case management studies in academic programs would help nurture a generation of professionals capable of responding effectively to issues of gender-based violence.

“The University of Sindh is determined to create a learning environment that promotes dignity, equality and protection for all members of society,” he remarked. Dr Marri said that research-driven interventions were essential for understanding the root causes of gender-based violence and formulating sustainable solutions.
