ISLAMABAD: The inflation based on Sensitive Price Index (SPI) has increased by 0.46 percent for the week ended June 18, 2026, largely due to notable upward trends in the prices of tomatoes, 16.65 percent, potatoes, 6.82 percent, chicken, 5.60 percent, and washing soaps, 1.16 percent, said the weekly inflation data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

The PBS has further reported hikes in the prices of gur, 0.65 percent, mutton and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), 0.51 percent each, shirting, 0.48 percent, long cloth, 0.43 percent, eggs, 0.35 percent, milk fresh, 0.29 percent, and curd, 0.26 percent.

On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the SPI recorded an increase of 15.28 percent, driven by sharp rises in the prices of onions (79.76 percent), tomatoes (68.59 percent), electricity charges for Q1 (59.40 percent), wheat flour (58.72 percent), LPG (52.66 percent), Petrol (44.73 percent), diesel (44.39 percent), mutton (16.30 percent), chilies powder (15.20 percent), beef (12.86 percent), garlic (10.74 percent) and bread (8.67 percent).

According to PBS, on YoY basis, major reductions were observed in the prices of potatoes (41.09 percent), eggs (26.98 percent), pulse gram (22.32 percent), sugar (17.51 percent), salt powder (14.09 percent), Pulse Masoor (12.25 percent), pulse moong (5.48 percent), and chicken (4.24 percent).

During the week, of 51 items in the SPI basket, the prices of 25 items (49.02 percent) recorded an increase, 11 items (21.57 percent) recorded a decline, and the prices of 15 items (29.41 percent) remained unchanged.

On a Week on Week (WoW) basis, major decreases were observed in the prices of onions (2.98 percent), garlic (2.51 percent), bananas (1.28 percent), petrol (1.06 percent), pulse mash (1.04 percent), salt powder (0.95 percent), pulse moong (0.61 percent), wheat flour (0.53 percent), diesel (0.51 percent) and pulse gram (0.04 percent).
