ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said the federal government would bear all expenses of the 100-megawatt solar power supply project for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
While chairing a review meeting on the 100MW solar energy project in Gilgit-Baltistan, the prime minister directed that the pace of work on the project be accelerated and that it be completed as soon as possible.
He also instructed that independent third-party validation be ensured at all stages of the project to guarantee transparency.
During the meeting, officials briefed participants on the federal government’s solar project in Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the briefing, there is an 18MW solar energy project for government buildings in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The 18MW project for government buildings in the Gilgit and Diamer Divisions will be completed by December 2026, while the solarisation project for government buildings in the Baltistan division will be completed by October 2026.
Work is also under way on an 82MW solar energy project for households in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas and Khaplu, the briefing added. The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Power Division Awais Leghari, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema and other senior government officials.
