KARACHI: Sindh government spokesperson Arsalan Islam Sheikh, who is also the mayor of Sukkur, has said that the people have delivered their verdict in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerging as the single largest party.
The party was now in a position to form government there, he said.
Arsalan Islam Sheikh said that whether in Sindh or across Pakistan, the PPP had quietly continued its journey of public service in all the four provinces and had always remained at the forefront of serving the people.
He said that the results of the Gilgit-Baltistan elections had been a clear reflection of the PPP’s people-centre politics and commitment to people’s welfare as the voters had once again expressed their confidence in the party.
The spokesperson said that the PPP did not believe “in the politics of advertisements and publicity”, but it had been active in the development work for the people.
Sheikh said that the election results had made it clear that those who were engaged in propaganda had been defeated, while the “arrow” — the election symbol of the PPP -— had emerged victorious.
He said all the “delayed” and “pending” election results must be announced immediately to ensure transparency of the democratic process and maintain public confidence.
The spokesperson said that “any form of engineering”, unnecessary delay, or obstruction in the announcement of the election results would be unacceptable, adding that the people had been fully aware of and committed to protecting their democratic rights.
