ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Health Services and Regulations, Mustafa Kamal, vowed to introduce viable reforms in the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC), saying that the provision of quality health services to the people of Pakistan is the foremost priority of the government.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad here on Monday, he said the nursing department has a pivotal role in the health sector. The minister said the government is taking several steps to uplift the nursing department in line with the modern-day requirements.
While highlighting the significance of the nursing sector in medical health, the minister said that it was one of the key sectors having high demand across the globe, adding that only Pakistan requires around 900,000 nurses, while the global healthcare sector is facing a shortage of approximately 2.5 million nurses.
He said the government introduced an ordinance to ensure good governance in the nursing department, which has been dispatched to the President’s office after approval by the Prime Minister, while describing the nursing sector as a cornerstone of the country’s healthcare system. The minister stressed the need to strengthen the nursing sector to meet both domestic and international demand for healthcare professionals.
