KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi and Chinese Consul General in Karachi Yang Yundong on Friday reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-China relations, with a particular focus on economic cooperation, investment, trade and people-to-people exchanges.

The understanding was reached during a farewell meeting held at the Governor House in Karachi, where the Chinese diplomat called on the Governor ahead of the completion of his diplomatic assignment in the city.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China and reviewed opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors. They underscored the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries, describing it as a key factor for regional peace, stability and economic development.

Hashmi paid tribute to Yang Yundong for his services as Consul General and acknowledged his role in promoting cooperation between Sindh and China during his tenure.

He praised the Chinese diplomat’s efforts in strengthening economic, commercial and cultural links and fostering closer engagement between the people of the two countries.

The Governor said the Pakistan-China friendship had stood the test of time and continued to serve as a model of mutual trust, respect and cooperation. He emphasized that expanding educational and cultural exchange programmes would provide valuable opportunities for young people in Pakistan to benefit from China’s advancements in technology, innovation and scientific research.

“By broadening exchange programmes and institutional cooperation, our youth can gain greater exposure to modern Chinese technology and research helping them contribute more effectively to Pakistan’s development,” he said.

He also expressed his determination to further deepen economic, trade and public-level relations between Pakistan and China, noting that enhanced collaboration would bring mutual benefits and contribute to sustainable growth in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Yang Yundong thanked the Governor for the support and cooperation extended to him during his stay in Karachi.

He expressed his best wishes for the people of Sindh and Pakistan and reiterated China’s commitment to maintaining close and friendly relations with Pakistan.

The Chinese diplomat also recorded his farewell remarks in the Governor House visitors’ book, reflecting on his tenure in Karachi and the enduring friendship between the two countries.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing confidence that Pakistan-China relations would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead, supported by deeper economic engagement, stronger institutional partnerships and expanding people-to-people contacts.
