KARACHI: Residents of Keamari on Monday staged a protest demonstration against, what they called, a month-long water crisis, saying the ruling PPP, which holds all civic representation in the area, has been shrugging off public complaints about their daily hardships.
The demonstration was organised by the Mutaharrik Keamari Tehreek (Active Keamari Movement) and drew a large turnout from Bhatta Village Limari in UC-9, Mauripur Town, which falls under provincial constituency PS-115. Protesters raised slogans against the local administration and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, accusing both of criminal negligence over the prolonged shortage.
The rally was led by the movement’s patron-in-chief Advocate Ashfaq Danish, president Saddam Hussain Jadoon, and general secretary Syed Aslam Shah. The leaders pointed out that every elected representative in PS-115 and Mauripur Town - the MNA, MPA, Town Nazim, chairman, vice chairman, and councillors - belongs to the ruling PPP, making the unresolved crisis a damning indictment of the party’s performance and its disconnect from voters.
