LAHORE: The tradition of Pakistani expatriates and domestic workers returning to their hometowns for Eid has once again turned into a major nationwide travel rush, with millions of people heading back to celebrate the festival with their families.
On Sunday, large numbers of passengers flocked to bus terminals and railway stations, leading to a sharp increase in demand for intercity travel. The rush has particularly intensified on routes connecting major cities, including Lahore and Karachi.
Railway bookings on several trains operating from Lahore to Karachi have been fully sold out, with at least 10 mail and express trains reported to be 100 percent booked ahead of Eid.
According to railway officials, seats on three special Eid trains introduced to facilitate passengers have also been fully reserved due to high demand.
