ISLAMABAD: Armed robbers and snatchers continued their looting spree in the federal capital during the last week, depriving citizens of cash and valuables in various localities despite heavy security arrangements.

Data collected by Business Recorder based on First Information Reports (FIRs) lodged at different police stations revealed that 27 cases of auto theft, eight incidents of street crime, including snatching of mobile phones and cash, and 12 cases of robbery were reported during the week.

The jurisdictions of Khanna, Sumbal, Ramana, Karachi Company, Humak, and Bara Kahu police stations remained the most affected areas, emerging as major crime hotspots. Residents expressed concern over the growing incidents and urged senior police officials to take effective action against organised criminal gangs operating in the capital.

In one major incident, a gang of robbers stormed a house, held the residents at gunpoint, and looted Rs 235,000 before fleeing the scene.

In another incident, armed men intercepted Muhammad Sabtain near the Metro Bus stop at NUST and snatched his motorcycle and cash at gunpoint.

Similarly, robbers looted Rs 495,000 from Farzand Khan and Rs 23,000 from his driver near Kirpa while they were returning from a cattle market. The suspects held both men at gunpoint before escaping with the cash.

In Sector I-9, burglars broke into a house in the absence of the residents and stole 4.5 tola gold ornaments worth Rs 1.8 million, Rs 47,000 in cash, clothes, and food items.

Meanwhile, three suspects impersonating officials looted more than Rs 1 million from Usman Tazim at Dhok Hassu. The accused intercepted Usman Tazim and Sher Mohammad at a carriage factory, introduced themselves as officials, forced the victims into a vehicle, threatened them, and later escaped after taking the cash.

Separately, a young man died after allegedly jumping from the Faizabad Flyover. Eyewitnesses said the victim fell onto the Expressway and was hit by a speeding vehicle, resulting in his death on the spot.
