PESHAWAR: Federal government has agreed to provide 35 MMCFD natural gas to CNG sectors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and reopening of CNG stations from today (Thursday).

This was announced by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi after holding successful negotiations with a federal committee over gas supply issues.

Addressing a joint press conference here on Wednesday along Leader of the Opposition in KP Assembly Dr Ibadullah and Advisor to KP Govt on Finance Muzammil Aslam, the Governor said all political stakeholders in the province were united for the resolution of public issues.

He said the federal government had agreed to provide 35 MMCFD gas for the province, adding that uninterrupted gas supply would be ensured to CNG stations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Kundi said the province’s problems would be resolved through collective efforts and stressed that all political parties were on the same page regarding the protection of KP’s rights and public interests.

He said the matter had been taken up with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to strengthen the federation and ensure relief for the people of the province.

He added that the prime minister had also taken notice of the wheat supply issue and expressed hope that the matter would be resolved within the next couple of days.

Separately, Governor Kundi thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for constituting a committee to address the CNG closure issue in KP and welcomed the decision to restore 35 MMCFD gas supply for the province.

He termed the development a positive step towards addressing the legitimate concerns of the province and appreciated the coordination between the federal and provincial governments for resolving the issue.

The Governor also acknowledged the role of Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah and Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik in resolving the matter.

He further praised the unity shown by the provincial government and opposition parties, describing it as a positive development in the larger public interest.

Earlier, Kundi led a Jirga comprising representatives of the provincial government and opposition parties in a meeting with the committee formed by the prime minister to discuss the wheat transportation restrictions and CNG closure issue in KP.
