KARACHI: Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi has expressed deep concern and sorrow over the reported arrest of well-known humanitarian worker Saad Edhi and his companions in Israel while they were on a relief mission for the Palestinian people.
In an official statement, the governor said that preventing humanitarian workers from carrying out relief activities is against international humanitarian values, global laws, and fundamental human rights principles.
He stated that Saad Edhi (grandson of world known social worker) and his team were transporting food supplies, medicine, and other relief goods for the oppressed Palestinians suffering from war and blockade conditions.
Nihal said that the detention of welfare volunteers is a failed attempt to suppress the spirit of humanity and compassion.
He emphasised that those serving humanity represent universal values that rise above borders, religion, race, and nationality.
The governor further stated that the people of Pakistan have always stood with oppressed communities across the world and that support for the Palestinian people reflects the sentiments of the entire nation. That, every voice raised for the assistance of Palestinians is, in fact, a voice for humanity, justice, and peace.
Paying tribute to the services of Edhi Foundation, the governor said that the Edhi family has set an extraordinary example of humanitarian service beyond discrimination of religion, color, race, or nationality.
He remarked that the foundation’s contributions to humanity are globally recognised and remain a source of pride for Pakistan.
Hashmi urged the international community, global human rights organisations, and relevant international institutions to take immediate notice of the matter.
