Naqvi arrives in Tehran: Pakistan takes fresh initiative to facilitate peace talks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has embarked on a vigorous diplomatic effort to salvage a shaky peace agreement between the US and Iran, with Federal Minister of Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, arriving in Tehran on an unannounced two day visit reportedly with a “significant” message from Washington, sources and international media outlets reported on Saturday.

Al Jazeera quoting Iranian news agency/IRNA stated that Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on an unannounced visit to meet with Iranian officials. A diplomatic source in Islamabad told Business Recorder that Naqvi is expected to hold talks with several Iranian officials.

He was welcomed at the airport by his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni to facilitate dialogue and discuss regional developments. Iran’s WANA news agency said the two ministers briefly held a meeting to “discuss regional stability and bilateral cooperation”.

“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening interactions to address shared regional challenges,” the report said. When contacted Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, he referred to the Ministry of Interior.

Pakistan has been leading diplomatic efforts to reach a solution to end the US-Israel war against Iran.
