LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to formally unveil the Punjab government’s ambitious “AI Vision 2029” next month, aimed at transforming Punjab into the first AI-enabled province in South Asia within the next three years.
This was announced by Advisor to the Chief Minister on Special Initiatives and Artificial Intelligence, Ali Mustafa Dar, during his visit to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dar said the initiative is expected to contribute between USD5 billion and USD6 billion to Punjab’s economy. He said the government has already established an Office of Artificial Intelligence to enhance citizen services and has launched a socio-economic registry as part of broader digital governance reforms.
He added that Punjab is moving toward becoming the world’s largest AI-based service delivery unit and assured the business community that positive developments regarding lockdown-related matters would be announced soon.
LCCI President Faheem ur Rehman Saigol, while welcoming the advisor, said the global artificial intelligence market is moving toward a multi-trillion-dollar valuation and stressed that Pakistan must secure its share in the emerging sector.
He emphasized the need to integrate artificial intelligence into the economy, exports, and governance, and called for easy financing facilities and the establishment of incubation centres to support the growth of the AI industry in the country.
