‘Integrated transport system key to Gwadar Port’s global status’

KARACHI: Chairman Gwadar Port Noorul Haq Baloch continued his important meetings in Karachi, holding consultations with investors regarding Gwadar Port, transshipment and feeder services, the role of shipping lines including COSCO, and Central Asian trade routes via Iran.
According to details, Chairman Gwadar Port Noorul Haq Baloch visited the head office of PIFFA, where he met business personalities and representatives of the logistics industry.
The meeting was attended by PIFFA cabinet members Shiraz Qureshi (SVC), Bilal-ur-Rehman (IPC), Babar Dadabhoy (founding chairman of PIFFA), Shakeel Ahmed (former chairman), and Izhar-ul-Haq Qamar (chairman’s representative), along with former President of Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Faisal Dashti, Yasir Dashti, Gwadar Port officials Captain Gul Muhammad (retd) and Shabbir Ahmed Baloch, as well as business figures, logistics industry representatives, and stakeholders from the shipping sector.
The meeting and discussion focused on making Gwadar Port operational, promoting transit trade, and exploring opportunities for access to Central Asian states via Iran. Participants stated that they fully stand with Gwadar Port and that the government must take practical steps to make the project successful. They stressed that mere claims would not suffice and that Gwadar Port’s international status must be connected with an integrated transport system to effectively advance regional trade.
The meeting emphasised that 90 to 95 percent of global commercial trade is now conducted through containers; therefore, Gwadar Port must also be activated through modern container terminals and feeder services. Participants noted that Gwadar Port has the capacity to handle various types of cargo.
Former President of Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Faisal Dashti informed the meeting that security concerns regarding Gwadar have been unnecessarily exaggerated. Responding to questions about security, he said that hundreds of LPG tankers and other petroleum product vehicles travel peacefully every day from Gwadar to other parts of the country. He added that last year the Gwadar border generated approximately Rs54.5 billion in revenue for the Government of Pakistan, which is clear evidence of ongoing trade activities in the region.
