ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior on Friday rejected claims regarding the deportation or sect-specific expulsion of Pakistanis from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or any other country.
It said no deportations are being carried out from any country, including the UAE, adding that in most cases, deportations may be linked to violations of immigration laws, overstaying, or the use of illegal documentation.
Taking notice of reports regarding alleged targeted deportations of Pakistani nationals from the UAE, the ministry said such claims are baseless and misleading. “No sect-specific deportations from any country, including the UAE, are being carried out,” the ministry said in a statement issued here. It added that the deportations, if any, are part of a routine process under the host country’s legal and immigration framework.
The statement said that after examining the available details and data, it was necessary to state that such reports were “malicious and part of vicious propaganda by vested interests.”
It further stated that Pakistani nationals who fulfil visa and employment requirements continue to travel to and secure work opportunities in the UAE and other friendly countries without discrimination.
According to the ministry, any issue concerning Pakistani nationals abroad is taken up with the relevant authorities of the host country through established Foreign Office channels on a case-by-case basis.
The UAE hosts one of the world’s largest Pakistani expatriate communities, up to 1.8 million, and is a major source of remittances for the South Asian nation’s fragile economy.
