Pakistan seeks stronger energy ties with Saudi Arabia, refinery upgrade in focus

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Thursday held talks with Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, discussing energy security and options for refinery upgrade, as both sides reaffirmed commitment to deeper bilateral cooperation, his office said.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in the energy sector, with Pakistan expressing appreciation for the Kingdom’s continued support in meeting its petroleum needs during challenging times.

Malik thanked Saudi Arabia for extending favorable terms in petroleum supplies, saying the support has played a key role in addressing the country’s energy requirements.

Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation in the petroleum sector and exchanged views on enhancing long-term energy collaboration.

The Saudi envoy reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in overcoming its energy security challenges.

Officials noted that recent technical-level engagements between the two countries have made positive progress toward long-term cooperation. Discussions also covered potential investment and refinery upgrade projects being explored jointly.

The ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, acknowledging its efforts to maintain balance in a complex geopolitical environment.

Malik underscored Pakistan’s intent to deepen its strategic energy partnership with the Kingdom, particularly with Saudi Aramco, and appreciated Riyadh’s longstanding support.

He added that the government is working to meet the country’s growing energy needs, terming Saudi cooperation as highly valuable in this regard.
