10 killed as assailants target NRL site in Balochistan

At least 10 people were killed after unidentified assailants attacked the Darigwan site of National Resources Limited (NRL) in Balochistan on Tuesday evening, prompting a swift response from security forces who have since secured the area and launched a clearance operation.
“At approximately 17:45 hours on 22 April 2026, the National Resources Limited Darigwan Area site was attacked by unidentified miscreants,” the company said in a statement.
“Security forces, including the Frontier Corps, responded promptly and have secured the area. A clearance and sweep operation is currently underway to ensure the safety of personnel and assets.”
The company did not mention any casualties in its statement. However, local administration confirmed that at least 10 people were killed.
According to AFP, about 40 militants on motorcycles and other vehicles stormed the mining project site of NRL.
“The attack left ten people dead, including seven workers and three security personnel,” a local administration official told AFP on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
“There are unconfirmed reports that militants also took some employees hostage,” he added.
A local police official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the details of the attack to AFP.
No group claimed responsibility.
In its statement, the company shared that NRL remains committed to the development and empowerment of local communities in Balochistan. Currently, over 90% of the workforce at the Darigwan site comprises individuals from Balochistan, it added.

“NRL is closely coordinating with law enforcement authorities and will provide further updates as more information becomes available. The safety and security of our employees and operations remain our highest priority,” said the company.
NRL is a 100% Pakistani privately-owned company, registered in Quetta and formed as a joint venture between Fatima Fertilizer, Liberty Mills and Lucky Cement to develop large-scale mining opportunities in the province of Balochistan.
