KARACHI: Sindh government on Wednesday signed agreements with three major banks to digitise the collection of taxes on property transfers, aiming to improve transparency and curb corruption.
Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the new system would simplify procedures and integrate tax collection with the online platform of the Board of Revenue.
Under the initiative, memoranda of understanding were signed with Sindh Bank, National Bank of Pakistan and Bank of Punjab, in collaboration with the Board of Revenue by Sindh Local Government Department and Sindh Information Technology Department.
“The digitisation of the tax collection system will make property transfers faster, easier and more transparent,” Shah said at a ceremony held her, adding that the move would help eliminate irregularities in the existing process.
He said direct collection of stamp duty and other taxes through local councils would strengthen the financial position and improve service delivery.
Shah added that the initiative was part of broader efforts to modernise public services and expand digital governance in line with the provincial government’s policy direction.
The system will link local government bodies, the Board of Revenue and participating banks through a unified online platform, enabling more efficient and reliable tax collection, officials said.
Officials said the agreements signed at the ceremony would pave the way for implementation of the project in the coming months.
