The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the National Highway Authority (NHA) on Tuesday signed an agreement to develop two sections of the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M6) under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, according to a press release.

The agreement was signed by ADB Country Director for Pakistan Emma Fan and NHA Member PPP Ijaz Ahmed, and was witnessed by NHA Member Planning Dr Shafeeq Ahmad, ADB Deputy Country Director Syed Hussain Haider, and Director, Advisory Division-I, OMDP, ADB, Mohammed Azim Hashimi.

Under the project, ADB will provide advisory support, including feasibility studies, structuring a bankable PPP model, assistance with transparent procurement, and facilitation to achieve commercial and financial close.

The project will help connect the missing link in Pakistan’s north-south high-speed road network, improve logistics efficiency, reduce travel time, and strengthen trade flows across the country.

The scheme includes the construction of a 120-kilometre, six-lane motorway equipped with modern tolling, traffic management, and safety systems starting from Hyderabad.

It is seen as a key step toward completing the Peshawar-Karachi motorway corridor, a major national connectivity project.
