Vietnam coffee prices rise despite slow trade

HANOI: Vietnam coffee prices edged higher this week in line with a surge in London futures, although traders said domestic trading remained subdued, while in Indonesia, robusta premiums softened, traders said on Thursday.

Farmers in the Central Highlands, Vietnam’s coffee belt, sold beans at 87,700 dong to 89,000 dong (USD3.33 to USD3.38) per kg, up from last week’s 84,700 dong to 85,700 dong.

Robusta coffee for July delivery settled up USD43, or 1 percent, at USD3,394 a ton on Wednesday.

“Activity stayed tepid as farmers are not selling, although demand still exists after prices have come down significantly,” said a trader based in the Central Highlands.
