ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police on Wednesday launched large-scale combing and search operations in several areas of the federal capital and arrested 17 suspected persons to ensure foolproof security for the citizens and curb criminal activities.
A police official said that, following the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the city police have launched a grand search operation throughout the capital territory to strengthen security and tighten the noose around the criminal elements.
He said that to strengthen security, special checkpoints have been established at the city’s entry and exit points. All patrolling units and special squads are actively monitoring different areas. Senior officers remain present in the field to oversee security arrangements, he said, adding that capital police have also enhanced patrolling and random checking in different areas of Islamabad.
He said that several police teams have so far carried out operations in the jurisdictions of the Tarnol, Khanna, Aabpara, Shams Colony, Sumbal, Sihala, and Shahzad Town police stations. The search operations were conducted under the supervision of zonal Superintendents of Police (SPs), with active participation from female police officers, he said.
During the operations, the police teams checked 802 persons and 406 households. In addition, 115 shops and 26 hotels were inspected. The police team also examined 276 motorcycles and 106 vehicles, he said.
As a result of the operations, he said that 17 suspects, one vehicle, and 36 motorcycles were taken into custody and shifted to respective police stations for further investigation. Police also arrested suspects involved in illegal arms possession, and recovered two guns along with ammunition, he said.
The official further said that in a separate action against drug-related activities, several suspects were apprehended and 333 grams of crystal meth (ice) were seized.
