LAHORE: The Punjab Forest Department, in collaboration with Beaconhouse School, has planted 25,000 saplings in Karol Forest as part of the ongoing Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2026 under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Green Punjab Mission, aimed at combating smog and promoting environmental sustainability.
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the campaign is progressing steadily toward its ambitious target of planting 150 million saplings across the province during the spring season.
On Wednesday, a plantation drive was carried out in Karol Forest, Lahore, where students of Beaconhouse School actively participated alongside officials of the Forest Department. Out of the total plantation, 3,000 saplings were provided by the said School.
Director General (Forests) Punjab, Azfar Zia, and Chief Conservator of Forests, Sheikh Saqib Mahmood, attended the ceremony and planted saplings to mark the occasion. Conservator of Forests Lahore, Muhammad Imran Riaz Malik and Deputy Conservator of Forests Lahore, Imtiaz Hussain Siddiqui, also took part in the plantation activity.
Addressing the ceremony, the DG Forests highlighted that under the Chief Minister’s “Plant for Pakistan” initiative and the broader “Green Pakistan Programme,” plantations are being carried out on government lands in both block and linear formations. He further noted that, for the first time in Punjab’s history, modern technology is being utilised to geo-tag forest areas. This initiative will help monitor the success of plantations and curb illegal tree cutting in the future.
The Forest Department’s spokesperson emphasised that the initiative reflects the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to leave behind a cleaner, healthier, and more breathable environment for future generations, and added that trees and plants are essential for sustaining life and ecological balance.
