LAHORE: The Punjab Housing and Urban Development Department has decided to bolster manpower and machinery in various districts to ensure the timely completion of the Punjab Development Plan (PDP).

In this regard, Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin chaired a meeting on Thursday to review the progress of WASA development projects under the PDP. Present at the meeting were Punjab Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal and WASA Punjab DG Tayyab Fareed, along with the Managing Directors of WASA from 15 districts who participated via video link.

During the meeting, it was also decided that companies deemed responsible for slow progress or the use of substandard materials will be blacklisted. Additionally, due to recent rainfall, the pace of work in several districts will be intensified to a 24-hour schedule, accompanied by regular monitoring. In the initial phase, it has been decided to construct WASA complexes in 15 cities across Punjab.

On this occasion, the Minister directed all WASA Managing Directors to immediately launch a desilting campaign. He emphasised that increasing the depth and width of existing drains and protecting communities from flooding is a top priority. “Targets in 15 districts will be completed on time, considering the emergency conditions. Timely drainage of rainwater and addressing the challenges of desilting are key responsibilities.“
