Interior minister, US ambassador review security arrangements for Islamabad dialogue

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday informed United States Ambassador Natalie Baker that a “comprehensive and foolproof” security plan is in place for high-profile American dignitaries arriving for the high-level dialogue in Islamabad on Friday.

During a meeting held in the federal capital, both the dignitaries reviewed the arrangements for the high-level negotiations scheduled to take place in Islamabad tomorrow.

The interior minister confirmed that US Vice President JD Vance, alongside senior officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will be received as special guests. “We have formulated an extensive security strategy to ensure the absolute safety of all foreign delegates during their stay,” Naqvi emphasised.

The discussion also touched upon the prevailing situation in the Middle East. Ambassador Baker welcomed the recent ceasefire and lauded Pakistan’s “robust and sincere” diplomatic efforts in de-escalating regional tensions.

The US envoy appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in fostering regional stability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced that American and Iranian delegations are due to visit Pakistan on 10 April, expressing optimism that the talks will pave the way for lasting peace in the Middle East.

Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister said a two-week ceasefire had temporarily halted the war, but the ultimate goal remained the establishment of lasting and sustainable peace in the region.

He praised Field Marshal Gen Asim Munir for his pivotal role in the diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States, noting that Gen Munir had stayed awake for several nights, maintaining continuous contact with the leadership of both Iran and the US to facilitate dialogue.
