LAHORE: A delegation of Foodpanda Pakistan called on the Chairperson of the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, to discuss matters relating to digital payments, expansion of the tax net and registration of the food service sector in Punjab.

The PRA officials said during the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on enhancing cooperation to bring online food platforms and related businesses into the tax net across the province. The delegation expressed their willingness to collaborate with the PRA in promoting documentation of the digital food economy and encouraging compliance among service providers operating through online platforms.The participants also discussed joint initiatives aimed at promoting tax culture and conducting public awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of tax compliance. Members of the delegation noted that the effective use of technology can play a vital role in preventing tax evasion and increasing revenue collection. They further stated that the growth of the e-economy would enhance transparency in business activities while also providing greater convenience to consumers.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson PRA emphasized that the promotion of a cashless economy and the provision of online facilities are among the key priorities of the government. He stated that collaboration with food delivery platforms would help bring unregistered businesses into the tax net and improve documentation of the service sector. He further reiterated that no licence would be issued by the Punjab Food Authority without registration with the Punjab Revenue Authority, stressing that such measures are essential to ensure proper tax compliance within the food services sector.

The chairperson further said that ensuring the tax collected from the public is duly deposited into the government treasury is a national responsibility. He added that the PRA will soon launch an awareness campaigns in educational institutions across the province to promote tax culture and encourage responsible tax practices among the youth.
