‘Govt actively transitioning towards digital and cashless economy’

ISLAMABAD: Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Wednesday said Pakistan is actively transitioning towards a digital and cashless economy, with Prime Minister oversight, as she met Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti to discuss digital transformation and IT cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by Federal Secretary IT and Chairman Pakistan Digital Authority, Dr. Sohail.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that information technology has become central to modern governance and economic growth, adding that the government’s priority is to build a secure digital Pakistan. She emphasised that artificial intelligence has emerged as a critical requirement of the time and that efforts are underway to equip youth with AI skills.

Shaza Fatima said Pakistan is moving steadily towards becoming a digital nation in line with the prime minister’s vision, noting that the shift to a cashless economy is being directly monitored at the highest level.

Highlighting the security dimension, she said that cyber security played a decisive role in recent challenges, asserting that Pakistan successfully countered threats through digital resilience.

The meeting also focused on expanding digital infrastructure and enhancing collaboration to accelerate IT growth, particularly in Balochistan.
